So by now I guess all of you guildies out there are aware that we’re turning into a 10-man raiding guild. One of the main reasons about this is because in Cataclysm all the loot dropping from 10 and 25 man are of equal level, equal stats, equal everything. Another reason for this change is that we were struggling to get 25 people online for the three days of raiding we were aiming: tuesday, wednesday and thursday.
For the most part, tuesday was the day to raid. Then on wednesday we begun to experience some loss of players and by thursday we barely have the original comp from tuesday. This simply doesn’t work. In order to progress, we need to have a core that raids consistently. The same 25 people that start on tuesday need to finish it by thursday.
So here’s another reason for the 10-man change: consistency. On 10-man raids it is easy to get a consistent group that runs together from tuesday to thursday, or friday to monday (that’s our plan for the second 10 man group). It also avoids a bit of drama, since it’s less people to manage – not that our guild have that, I haven’t seen any major drama since we moved from Area 52 to Moonrunner.
As for the groups, you all know – or have a slight idea – that our GM, Co-GM and Officers, with a couple more people, form the “core” raiding group. Being a core raiding group does not mean we’re the best players in the guild (ok maybe we are, I know I am awesome, can’t speak for the rest – and btw I’m j/k). It means that we are the guys who have been playing together for a long time now – years – so we know each other, our style of playing, we know the fights, etc. It has nothing to do with favoritism for this or that player.
And what I want from the second group is the same. I want the second group to be awesome. I want the people on it to know all the fights by the letter, I want people playing in it to get along and have a fun time playing together. And what I really want for the second group is to NOT view itself as a “second”. I want that group to view itself as an equal group of experienced and fun players like our core is. I want you to be awesome as I am!
So for the next couple weeks we’re going to try and figure it out the comp for our two 10-man groups. Our raiders will consist of around 23 people. Why? Because we need people to back up our 10-man groups. For example, we have this core 10-man set up to tuesday and one of our raiders don’t show up for a variety of reasons. We’ll get one of our standby players and we’ll stick with him all the way through the raid, unless he or she has to bail. This is what I consider fair. I don’t like the idea of inviting people and then kick them out in the middle of the raid and I’m sure our GMs and Officers share this feeling with me.
What else… loot distribution isn’t figured it out yet. Maybe we’ll continue to use EPGP, maybe not. I like the drama dodge EPGP gives. We’ll see it.
Well I guess this is it for now. So, resuming: we’re now a 10-man raiding guild. If you want to raid 25-man, feel free to /gquit anytime, we won’t get mad at anyone, on the contrary we wish you the best of luck to bring down the Lich King on 25-man if that’s your game. And you can still stay in touch with us, we’re that friendly.
[EDIT] Thanks Tedzor for pointing out my horrible english skills!
